With over 18 years of experience in financial mathematics, Andrés's studies include degrees from MIT in Economics, Mech. Eng., and Management Science; a Masters in Financial Engineering from NYU; and both a Masters in Financial Mathematics and a PhD in Statistics from Stanford University. Before starting Alkanza, Andrés founded and sold a successful quantitative finance company - a leader in its field with business across 17 countries, and more than 50 institutional & corporate clients with revenues of over $45B.
Head of Finance
Randy is Alkanza’s Head of Finance. With over 12 years of investing experience focused primarily on the equities of US financial services companies, Randy’s experience includes time with Merrill Lynch and leading all investments in US Banks and Specialty Finance businesses for RS Investments, where he was a Partner. In 2012, Randy founded the top performing algorithmic investment fund operating on the US peer-to-peer lending market. Randy received Masters of Science in Management from Stanford Graduate School of Business. Randy is a CFA charterholder.
Chief Operating Officer
Mauricio has over 12 years of experience in the fields of capital markets & structuring of financial products, and he holds a BS in Industrial Engineering from Universidad de los Andes and a Certificate in Quantitative Finance. Over his career Mauricio held portfolio management positions at leading financial institutions such as BBVA, Banco Santander, and Banco de Credito. Mauricio also has leadership experience in the hedge fund industry where he led development and implementation of quantitative strategies, statistical models, and risk management strategies.
Fernando holds a B.S in Applied Mathematics from Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico, in Mexico City. After graduation he worked in investment management at Citigroup specializing in portfolio optimization, risk, and asset allocation. Following his time at Citigroup, he received a masters degree from UCLA in Financial Engineering. While at UCLA he worked on several projects in industry utilizing factor modeling, default risk forecasting, and index forecasting. At Alkanza Fernando develops and researches financial models.
Daniela has experience in capital markets working as trader for a variety of investments funds in Colombia and has worked across Latin America developing risk and valuations models for major financial institutions. At Alkanza Daniela works in Data Science focusing on our B2B customers' frontiers, and on identifying interesting patterns and responses for emergent behaviors in our customers' data. Daniela graduated from Universidad de Los Andes with a B.S in Industrial Engineering and an emphasis in Mathematics.
Douglas holds a B.S. in Psychology with concentrations in Neuroscience and Finance from Princeton University, where he focused on understanding how and why people make financial decisions. Particularly he was interested in the impact that risk tolerance and temporal discontinuity have on decision making. Following a brief stint making wine in Chile, he returned to the United States to complete research leveraging behavioral science to reduce household electricity usage. At Alkanza he leads the Behavioral Science team and works on developing Alkanza’s engagement engine.
Kay is part of the research team at Alkanza and is a Professor in Management Science & Engineering at Stanford University where he is the Director of the Advanced Financial Technologies Laboratory and of the Mathematical and Computational Finance Program. Kay is a member of the Institute for Computational and Mathematical Engineering, and also serves on the Governing Board and Scientific Advisory Board of the Consortium for Data Analytics in Risk.
Jose is a key member of our research team and holds a Ph.D. in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University. Prior to Stanford he was a faculty member of Columbia and Harvard University. Jose is a recipient of the 2009 Best Publication Award given by the INFORMS Applied Probability Society and of the 2010 Erlang Prize. He also received a PECASE award given by NSF in 2010. He worked as an analyst in Protego Financial Advisors, a leading investment bank in Mexico.
Chief Technology Officer
George began his career in technology with Oracle before spending several years in Consulting with Andersen and as a partner at Deloitte working across North America, EMEA and Asia. In the US George was CTO of Deloitte Digital and led Deloitte's software vertical from their Silicon Valley offices - and in these roles George was responsible for identifying and building partnerships with early to growth stage SaaS companies, and leading large scale enterprise software implementations.George has a degree in Mech. Engineering from the University of Leeds.
Head of Engineering
Juan is our head of engineering and co-founder of Alkanza. He holds a BS in management science with a concentration in information technology from MIT. Before Alkanza, Juan worked at Mozilla where he led quality engineering efforts for both Firefox and Thunderbird. He has more than 12 years of experience leading engineering at early stage companies at different stages of maturity across software development, testing, security, release engineering and project management. Juan has also been a technology consultant for several companies throughout the US and Latin America.
Victor Preciado is a technology veteran with over 20 years experience building and leading high performance teams. He has a passion for implementing lightweight operational processes designed to maximize the output of technical teams. Along the way, Vic has successfully led teams in a variety of technical disciplines including software engineering, quality assurance, business intelligence, data engineering, data science and analytics. Prior to jumping into the startup world, Vic studied computer science at MIT and is now known for his charismatic smile in coffee shops throughout Latin America.
Born and raised in Silicon Valley, Nick received a degree in Economics from UC Santa Cruz before going on to run early-stage product development and licensing for the Ventures group of SRI International. At Alkanza he manages product development of the iOS, Android, and Web applications for Alkanza, in addition to select partner integrations. When he’s not at work, he’s either reading, writing music, or visiting the nearest brewery.
Product Manager - FinMath & Science
Mauricio holds a B.S in Industrial Engineering and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Universidad de Los Andes. After college Mauricio worked at PwC focusing on financial engineering for some of the largest companies in Latin America. Mauricio also has a wealth of experience developing new and innovative portfolio optimization techniques and methodologies using complex computational algorithms, and in addition has practical experience trading in the US, European and Latin American Markets. At Alkanza Mauricio works on core product and advises our B2B customers, specializing in financial mathematics, operations and data science
Nicole holds a BFA in Graphic Design from Rhode Island School of Design. After graduating she gained experience across industries from fashion to publishing in New York. Nicole has traveled the world while volunteering and conducted several projects with IDEO. With a strong focus on user-centered design, Nicole leads the design team at Alkanza, ensuring all UX & UI decisions serve customer needs. At work you can find her listening to video game soundtracks and sipping tea.
Head of DevOps
Alejandro is a unix/linux and cloud infrastructure specialist with background in development and automation, and over 10 years experience working across a number of sectors from government and finance, to news and technology. He enjoys working with open source technologies and has a deep understanding of the linux kernel and cloud platforms. Alejandro joined Alkanza as head of devops to help the company build a reliable, scalable platform.
Nicolás is a seasoned developer who has been involved in the startup world since the beginning of his career. The projects he has contributed to have allowed him to gain experience and insight in a variety of fields including 2D and 3D visualizations, mobile development, web development, backend development and systems infrastructure. He holds BS and MS titles in systems engineering from Universidad de los Andes and he is passionate about architecture design and delivering quality products to end users.
Maria has a BA in Design with a minor in Anthropology from Universidad de los Andes and recently graduated from her MBA at Hult international Business School in Boston. She is now pursuing a Masters of Disruptive Innovation at Hult’s campus in San Francisco. After working during 3 years in innovation consulting, user experience and service design in Colombia, she has now joined the team at Alkanza and is doing her internship as usability researcher. She enjoys working in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams and finding creative and innovative business solutions to today’s challenges.
